The Deal Book Review

Because why not read about how deals get made?

When you have three people recommend a book series to you, that is usually a sign of the universe telling you to go read it. Now, I know my blog is primarily a YA space where my head is fully immersed in the YA genre, fantasy and dawdling in other genres. Occasionally, I will read in the adult genre and sometimes, contemporary romance, but I admit, it's not my forte exactly. And I admit I didn't get why people got hooked over Hockey Romances.

I definitely do now and let me just say this: GARRETT GRAHAM IS NOT THE BOOK BOYFRIEND OF LADIES DREAMS.

Here we go.

Short Summary: Hannah Wells, a music major collides with the disastrous captain of the hockey team, Garrett Graham who offers a deal that may flip both of their lives upside down.

Now... I enjoyed this book surprisingly. I'm not a hockey person in reality (people have tried to explain the sport to me and I still didn't get it) but despite that, I did get pulled in and read through the end.

Did I expect more conflict in this book so the couple fights more for their happiness? Yes.

Did I fall for Garrett Graham? NOPE. And this is the part where I admit that the dude did not capture my heart, keep it in a chokehold or makes me want to bow at his feet like he's the lord and savior. I say it here and literally everywhere else: THERE ARE BETTER BOOK BOYFRIENDS OUT THERE.

He is the perfect himbo/caveman hockey boyfriend. An absolute hunk of a captain with daddy issues, an obsession with sex and poor problem solving skills. What was the use of mentioning he was a history major? Why was the only meaningful activity we got from them apart from going to parties, watching Breaking Bad? Like, as the reader, I was expecting more from this guy who did not deliver. Also, going as far as telling the guys across campus to not date her so he could "get her back"?

It screams 'being a sore loser" to the four winds. Not to mention the territorial caveman vibes it gave. Sure, the primal instinct can drive some people crazy, but it only drove me mad and in the end, I am reading this story because I am invested to know more about his friends, not him.

All in all, catch me in book 2 once I get through it.

Overall: 3.5/ 5 stars
