Ain’t burned all the bright book review

Because lyric poem books have reached my eyes too.

I've recently come to appreciate poetry books, or well, more like lyric poems for how short and long and lyrical and jarring and thought provoking and heartwrenching they can be. This might be a good book to teach for all my teaching friends out there, just saying ;)

So, this review is a bit different from my usual ones. This book was published in 2022, but ultimately reflects on 2020, the unforgettable year that changed all our lives. Two authors combine their forces of words and pictures to depict a story of a family stuck at home, each in their own little islands of isolation, desperation and the last embers of hope starting to disappear, capturing the distress, the anguish and fear a lot of us felt during the height of the pandemic, but also, the hope and the dreams that one day, things could change.

In a somewhat post-pandemic world, we still have the vestiges of trying to get back to normal, or more like the New Normal but it's still a timely read to reflect on how despite the hardships, we still survived and we still remain resilient, still dreaming and living and waking up the next day to see and do new things.

A thought-provoking read for sure. Especially as the book starts with the moment of someone about to blow a birthday candle and ending with a dandelion being blown which was just beautiful.

Whoever borrows the book from the library will have to deal with the mini dog eared pages of the moments that stuck with me the most.

Overall: 4/5 stars
