Yes, I'm back and finally ready to rant about this book which is a book unlike any other. So, you all know I have a soft spot for heist novels and this one wasn't the exeption. This was the book that left me awake at 1am with tears in my eyes and also left me speechless.
I was also reminded why historical fiction packs more angst than other genres do sometimes. So, here we go.
Short Summary: an expert thief, a contortionist, a counterfeit artist and a con actress all team up to steal a priceless artifact on the titanic while trying not to fall in love with each other.
I will die on my hill that they were all lesbians.
Long Summary: Josefa has always been about the thrill of stealing, the adrenaline of knowing she's alive and not tied to her stuffy, privileged family.
So her latest target is the Rubaiyat, a book of poems with valuable jewels encrusted. But, this isn't the only reason she wants to board the Titanic.
For that, she'll need help. From Violet, her partner in crime racing against the clock to help her little brother to Hinnah, the contortionist who dreams of a life away from the circus that doesn't care about her to even Emilie, the beautiful french painter who can replicate nearly anything but just needs a spark of inspiration to keep creating, these 4 girls will team up to steal the book.
And hope they can get away with it to live with enough money for the rest of their days.
This book flew by so fast and before I knew it, I was reading late into the night, super invested in the story until the very bitter end. Truly, a wonderful book and definitely will be another favorite of the year.
Overall:5/5 stars
