This was one of my anticipated reads of the year. If we consider the chokehold the first book had on me after I finished reading it, the agony of waiting until it came out was a LOT, but I am super excited to dive into these sequel (I did a buddy read with @alexandergrantwriter) to be able to rant and vent over all the emotions it has caused since I first started reading this.
I know, it's been a while but the dry spell is over.
Short Summary? After the blood tournament starts breaking, the rules have changed as our misfit group of villains consisting of Alistair, Gavin, Isobel, Briony, Finley and with the new addition of Reid, the crazy author of the book that threw everyone's lives into a tailspin as they choose sides in a battle to break the tournament curse once and for all-- or to die trying.
Longer Summary: The Blood Veil has been broken, but the tournament will keep breaking-- either to everyone's benefit, or to their untimely deaths. For Alistair, the breaking of the tournament means losing his brother Hendry again. For Gavin, it means the temporary alliance with Allistair could end in bloodshed. For Isobel, who is desperate to live at all costs, it might be a way out. For Briony, it means to be the hero and to stop future generations of bloodshed. For Reid, the self-inserted new member of the tournament who holds Isobel's life on a thread, it means the first chance to make his name known for the winner of all the high magick and for Finley, it means a possible exit to be free at last. As sides are chosen, those who wish to break the tournament will face greater challenges that may be greater than their demise.
If only all their hearts could decide what the best choice is to move forward.
This appears to be the year of good sequels because in past years, I tend to end up reading either chaotically bad sequels, or the ones that are just okay. The amount of twists (and tears) this book has caused is truly villainous. And so, both authors have set out to ruin the remnants of my poor tattered heart at some of the things that happen in this book. While it is not focused so much on the bloodshed until much later, it still wreaks havoc in so many different ways.
Note: If there are those of you who shipped Alistair and Gavin together since book 1 because Alistair and Isobel didn't convince you all... you're in for a treat😈
Overall: 4/5
