For the people who can't deal with long playlists.
Welcome to a brand new post on the value of music in our current times!
Music is everywhere we go and many of us rely on it a lot to get through our day to day (I know I do!) but, there are some people who love long playlists like myself and other people who prefer song recommendations and want it to be short and simple. Also, because let's face it. Whenever someone asks me what type of music I listen to.... I never have a concise answer because my music taste is everywhere. So, I decided to narrow it down with 5 song recommendations and the why behind each song.
I promise it'll be short. But now... onto the song recs!
Current Top 5 songs
1. Bastille- Back to the Future
Why: Because since the beginning of their existence and the time when "Pompeii" was blasting through the radio, I have followed their journey and once their new album came out (and I stayed up until midnight when it released on Spotify to listen to it!) THIS was the song that stole my heart. And it's full of chaotic, happy energy I love.
Plus: I would definitely wish to scream IN THE MIDDLE OF THE NIIIIIIGHTTTTT during midnight at the rooftop of my apartment someday since it rhymes with the song and all.
2. Au/Ra and Mothica- Last Cigarette
Why: I love nearly all of Au/Ra's music and her voice blends so well with Mothica's (I'm new to her music!) so when I heard the grunge/rock type song and the chorus which is stuck in my head, it has been on a loop ever since.
Plus: Watch the Youtube video. A detective chasing their mysterious toxic moth lover is EVERYTHING.
3. ENHYPHEN- Drunk- Dazed
Why: Since the discovery of this song back in 2021 by my sister, the song has not left my head and is always on my On Repeat playlist (I love the bridge of the song so much!) For the writer in me, chase and action scenes are being imagined while this song plays.
Plus: Their music is pretty good, their new album has some good songs!
4. Why Don't We- Love Back
Why: After One Direction disbanded (and we cried for their separation, but moved on to follow their solo careers lol), it was hard to find another boy band that did the music right, but they definitely have stuck. My introduction to them was through their song "Trust Fund Baby" (has a sticky chorus!) and this is one of their newer songs that makes me want to dance in my bedroom half of the time I hear it.
Plus: You have to admit it's clever to title a song Love back making you think that the person wants to be loved back when REALLY the song is asking for the love they gave to be given back. Hehe.
5. Charli XCX - Used to know me
Why: Because the queen is strutting with a new album that has me OBSESSED. And if it isn't this song, then try "Yuck". Or try "Beg for you" with Rina Sawayama for all those fans out there who love her music. Or even "Good Ones". Honestly, there's so many good songs on her new album CRASH that it's worth giving it a listen to.
Plus: It has the retro 90's vibes going on there too.
So... Those are my current five, but obviously there are MANY MORE songs to mention. Honorable mentions go to: Zedd and Martin Garrix's "Follow", Clean Bandit's "Everything but you", Jonas Blue's "Perfect Melody" with Julian Peretta and for Kim Petras' "Malibu".
With that being said...listen away and absorb all the music you can!
